Conduct a search on the IP India trademark database to ensure that your institution’s name or logo isn’t already registered or similar to an existing one.Choose Trademark Type
Decide whether you want to register your wordmark (institution name), logo/emblem, or both. Many institutions also trademark their motto or tagline.Prepare the Required Documents
Gather ID proof, business or trust registration certificates, logo image, address proof, and authorization letter (TM-48 form).File Application (Form TM-A)
Submit the application online via the IP India E-Filing Portal using a Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).Pay Government Fees
Government filing fee is ₹4,500 for individuals/startups and ₹9,000 for registered institutions or companies, per class.Acknowledgment & TM Number
After submission, an acknowledgment number is generated. You can start using the ™ symbol immediately.Examination by Trademark Office
The Registrar reviews your application for compliance, distinctiveness, and similarity to other marks.Publication in Journal
If accepted, the mark is published in the Trademark Journal for four months to allow public objections.Final Registration & Certificate
If there’s no objection, or it’s resolved successfully, you receive a Trademark Registration Certificate and can start using the ® symbol officially.
